A Lakeside, Florida police department. was called out to a bomb threat. As the police were called out a notice was sent out on Twitter. Resently many emergency service departments have been using social networking sites to inform the public about what is going on. "We think the police department has an obligation to get information out to the community through whatever means or mechanisms we have at our disposal," said Lakeland Police Assistant Chief Bill LePere. "Traditional media releases, expecting the local print media to pick it up and run it in the newspaper tomorrow, is 24 hours too late." They aren't just using social networking sites to inform the public in a quick way but they are also using them as a way to get press releases out to the public.
